September 27, 2020: A Week in the Life

Hi! I’m Grace, and I’m so excited to share some updates on the beginnings of APB’s fall semester. It was only 3 weeks ago that we here at A Place Beyond welcomed our very first cohort of students:

Look at the top halves of their sweet faces!

Our founding cohort is represented in the following numbers:

  • 5 students in the class of 2021, 13 in the class of 2022, 7 in the class of 2023, and 9 in the class of 2024.
  • 21 female students, 11 male students, and 2 non-binary students.
  • Students representing 29 different universities across the U.S. and Canada.
  • 34 awesome, enthusiastic, interesting people (this is objective fact).

Since they got here, we've lived, we've loved, and we've laughed together. Here are some photo highlights:

On our first Wednesday, students were able to unmask all together after months of the social-distanced lifestyle. From group hugs at breakfast, to a big game of Ultimate Scoop Noodle Challenge on the field, to a camp-wide dance party in the evening, it was perhaps the event of the year.
Since then, things have hit full swing. Students had the chance to try out bouldering on the Groom Creek Boulders and get crazy in the Gaga Pit. We celebrated three birthdays, held a trivia night, took a trip to the lake, and students made (and ate) homemade challah for Rosh Hashana (Shana Tova!)

And this is just the beginning! We can't wait for what's ahead.
