Our Front Range campus in Florissant, CO offers the perfect location to study and grow while you explore all that mountain life has to offer. Our site partner, Sanborn Western Camps, offers excellent facilities and an unmatched 6000 acre campus abutting an additional 6000 acres of accessible public land in the Pike & San Isabel National Forests and the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument. Our Front Range campus is a quintessential example of the Colorado high country. On the property you can take advantage of large cabins with separate study and living spaces, three large (4000+ sq. ft.) indoor library-type buildings to study in, two rock climbing crags on campus, an indoor bouldering gym, and miles of trails up mountains and down valleys to hike, bike, run, ski, and enjoy.
Native land acknowledgement
Our Front Range campus sits on traditional Núu-agha-tʉvʉ-pʉ̱ (Ute), Cheyenne, and Jicarilla Apache lands.
I will like this location if…
I like hiking, trail running, biking, rock climbing, skiing, and the Colorado Sun — nearby Colorado Springs gets 247 days of sun per year.
The area
Florissant is nearly equi-distant from Breckenridge (resort skiing), Shelf Road (year-round rock climbing), Monarch Pass (backcountry skiing), Pikes Peak, Leadville, and Colorado Springs. Closer still is Eleven Mile Canyon Recreation Area, the Florissant Fossil Bed National Monument, and the thousands of acres of Colorado high country right outside your door.
Accommodations
Like our Bradshaw Mountains campus, we'll convert cabins regularly used for 12-15 to just triple occupancy. The twist at our Front Range campus is a shared living room and fireplace between each two cabins. We'll put round tables and chairs in each cabin and in the living room to create a ton of indoor work space.
We're excited about the Inter-Barn building — a huge, two-story natural history museum we're converting into a library space featuring lots of tables, fast internet, and common kitchen.
Nearest town
The tiny Florissant, CO is a 15 minute drive, and Woodland Park's grocery and big box stores are 15 minutes more.
What's the weather like?
Sunny with highs that range from 39° F in January to 64° F in May, and lows from 3° F to 29° F. Florissant's January and February are Florissant's driest months, shielded from the storms which typically come from the west, so don't expect much snow at first. Enjoy curling up next to the fire in the mornings and evenings (the electric heaters work too!) before enjoying brisk winter days running, hiking, biking, or climbing in the sun. March will likely bring the Colorado spring snow and a lot of happy participants and instructors.
